In Scottland, about 20 to 30 families a year are currently left to pay for homicide cleanup if their home was where the crime occurred. Unattended death scenes are treated as a homicide until evidence shows differently. Families not only have to suffer from the loss of thier loved one, but must take on the burden and expense of blood and odor removal as well as urine and feces cleanup.
